Ok, I read that news thinggy about idolers on VT being kicked. I wonder though, why kick them? I mean, sure it's kind of retarded for them to sit alone in a channel, but what harm is it doing? It's not like they're taking up that much space...

I am not a ventrilo user but i didn't understand it either. They might wait for others to joign. What's wrong with that? I don't understand. Like they might not like the other channels and they wait for people to joign the channel they prefear.

The issue we have Cala is not so much with people sitting alone waiting for others to join. It is with people that are sitting on the Ventrilo server for the soul purpose of being able to say to others, "Wow! Look how sad I am, I've been here for 20 hours now.". In that time the server could become full and that place could be used by active users so that's why we won't tollerate people just sitting and idling. The server is there for talking on. People can idle elsewhere.

well, I think they should be left alone. i mean, if the room gets to it's max amount of people, if people are waiting to join, then yeah you should kick them. but come on, I've never seen 25 people in one room

Here's my take. I read the part about idle people playing music in rooms. People playing music when you are having a comvo is annoying in my oppinion.

Well, just because you haven't seen the ventrilo server full doesn't mean that it hasn't happened before, or indeed that it won't happen again. As we can't be absolutely guaranteed that a community leader will be around to kick idlers when the server should become full, it makes a lot more sense to do it as and when we spot it happening. Your objections are noted, however this is the rule.

I'm in full agreement with dan here. This rule is fair. The voice chat server is for...um, let's see here, voice chatting? Therefore, there's really no point in someone being in a channel by themselves for hours at a time, for no reason whatsoever.

If I unjderstand it right the surver holds twenty-five people max, not twenty-five people to a room.
If that is the case, then that's why you want to get tid of idlers, to make room for those who do want to chat.
I think it's especially stupid when people sit in the lobbey.
Don't they get that you can't talk to other people in there?

Yes, it is 25 for the surver.

I think you're right for say8ing not to play music in the channels, because how can you listen to two different things at once.

Post 11 by raylo (9) on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2006 16:47:02

I think it's a good rule, because of the fact that just sitting there bogs the server down.I mean, let's be honest, we don't know how much the server can hold and do and how fast the server can functionRaymond

then what about also kicking the crap like people who just sit there playing mindnummingly boring noises that are rather dum if not stupid, and also people who are playing music etc? am not disagreeing with the rule but equally that sort of crap should also be dealt with.

Post 13 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 17-Aug-2006 23:07:04

If we're there and hear that sort of thing going on then it will be dealt with. However it should be noted that there is only a limited number of us staff and we can't be in all places at once. We have stated though in the rules that the "OpenMic Night" channel is set aside for playing sounds and music etc.

oh yeah dan that's perfectly understandable. but yeah as long as it's in there and yeah if there's somewhere that people want to do it, then yeah that's cool.
